Tobago is located in the southern Caribbean Sea, with just
Trinidad, separating it from the coast of South America. Just
26 miles long and 6 miles wide the island is very intimate and
friendly as well as meaning that nowhere is far to get to. Famous
for being the island on which the story of Robinson Crusoe was
written the island maintains its natural beauty with stunning
scenery and idyllic beaches giving claim to Tobago being the
last of the undiscovered Caribbean islands. The island has a
tropical climate with a wet season running from June to December
and a dry season that goes from January to May. However, from
our own experience the weather can be just as good in September
as in March. With the last hurricane to strike the island back
in 1963 the island is regarded as lying south of the hurricane
belt.
The island is heavily reliant on tourism meaning it is geared
towards entertaining the visitor. Beach and water-sport activities
are mainly found in the south and south west of the island as
are two 18 hole championship golf courses and the evening nightlife.
A growth in eco tourism means the north of the island, home
to the forest reserve, has seen large increases in the number
of visitors in recent years. Tobago is also a popular diving
location and is home to some of the best diving sites in the
Caribbean. With "Bucco Reef" just off the tip of the
south west of the island an array of tropical fish, rays and
turtles can be seen. If visiting during the months of April
through to September you may be lucky enough to experience the
leatherhead and leatherback turtles coming to shore to lay their
eggs.
Tobago is also famous for its festivals and carnivals with
the Tobago Heritage Festival spanning a two-week period from
mid July to early August and is an annual celebration of the
islands heritage by the way of dance, song, music and cuisine.
In April the island experiences an influx of visitors for the
world renowned Jazz Festival that in 2007 saw such famous names
perform as Elton John, Al Green and LL Cool J. One must also
not forget the world famous goat racing that takes place over
the Easter weekend in the village of Bucco and is reachable
by foot from both our villas.
Tobago provides an ideal location for weddings & honeymoons,
eco-adventure, scuba diving, and further sporting activities
such as golf as well as unadulterated fun in the sun. With the
islands careful approach to tourism, Tobago offers one of the
last absolutely unspoiled Caribbean destinations.
